Subj: LH AND RH DOWN - when??

Dear people,

I have always practised the concept of putting my Right Hand down when
playing over the break. However my new teacher has asked that I put my
Left Hand down at certain points in anticipation of certain notes over the
break.

e.g. when playing a C major scale I would be asked to press the 'B' key
with my Left hand little finger when playing an "E" (thumb + first finger
of LH) in anticipation of playing the B just above the break. I would then
put my RH down + the "C" key when I got to open G (as I had previously been
taught).
[I hope this is clear]

Is this use of the LH in this case the normally accepted approach? I would
be most interested in hearing other Klarinet subscribers' views on this
technique as although I have been playing for some 10 years - I have not
come across it previously - or perhaps I am just really out of touch!!

Sincerely,

Sam
Amateur Clarinettist
