Whenever I feel burnout coming, I lay off for a day. The next day, I play
something new or a piece I haven't practiced in a long time.

Sometimes I just pull out the Klose book and drill. I've even picked one
scale and just played it until I can't stand it anymore. I read that John
Coltrane once played a C major scale for 13 straight hours varying the
rhythm the note durations, etc. Now there's a challenge to get your
juices flowing.
