Thanks to everyone who gave me suggestions on articulation.
Every suggestion helped me quite a bit! I am very excited to say that
I am 1st chair clarinet in the All-State Orchestra! I was so shocked.
I didn't even expect to score that high, I wanted 1st in the orchestra
but I didn't think I actually could get it. My auditions were crazy
though.
I began with an 8:00 draw for clarinet 1st round. I drew
number...13. So lucky! I played fine, and made finals which didn't
start until 1:30. I now had to focus on my viola audition which was at
12:45. I drew for viola and drew the last place in the round. As the
person before me came out, the hall monitor told me th judges needed a
few minutes and were going to take a break after the end of the round.
5 minutes passed, they didn't come out and get me. By this time the
clarinets (the room was across the hall from the violas) were drawing
numbers for final round. I drew number 10. Fifteen or Twenty minutes
had passed and the monitor finally came out and said that I could go
in. I had gotten nervous by this time and as I went into the viola
audition, the clarinets were on number 3. I was frantic, thinking about
how I was going to get my clarinet out and maybe not even get to warm
up before my final audition. My viola audition didn't go as well as it
could have, I made 5th overall. My clarinet audition went well but I
didn't think well enough. Looks like I was overlycritical.
I once again want to thank those of you who sent me messages
on articulation. It was all most helpful. Thanks again!
