I just returned home from attending one of the premieres of the John Harbison
work in Athens, Georgia. The performer was Dr. Kenneth Fischer of the Universi
University of Georgia School of Music. I think that Dan is correct in saying t
that this is a very exciting direction to move in regarding performance opportu
opportunities for new music. Hopefully, more of this type of thing will happen
in the future. BTW, the title of the composition is San Antonio Sonata for
Alto Saxophone and Piano. I found it to be a very interesting and enjoyable pi
piece to hear. Hopefully, we will hear a clarinet peice premeired in the same
fashion.
