Subj: Report on The Online Clarinet Resource...the first month
Date: Sat, 2 Dec 1995 19:04:00 -0500

Friends,

I am pleased to report that the first month of publication of The Online
Clarinet Resource (on the World Wide Web) has been very successful. In
November, OCR hosted 2,528 visitors from all over the world, including the
United States, Australia, Belgium, Croatia, Iceland, The Netherlands...the
Internet's World Wide Web truly deserves its name. This level of
participation far exceeds my expectations for the first month of
publication. OCR is now indexed in many of the major search tools which
provide access to the Web, including major search engines such as Info Seek,
Excite!, and Yahoo.

Many of you who routinely participate in KLARINET discussions have visited;
I thank you all for your interest and support. Special words of thanks to
Dan Leeson, who has contributed two excellent articles, and to Jim Sclater,
who as contributed a fine review of Peter Maxwell Davies's new clarinet
concerto.

Most visitors have participated as readers; I would like to encourage all to
consider the publication opportunities afforded by OCR.

Many readers have written to me asking if it is possible for OCR to include
information on workshops and seminars. This of course can and will be done,
but is only possible with your participation. Readers are asking for (1)
announcements of upcoming clarinet workshops; and (2) reports on workshops
(a descriptive report on what information was presented). If you know of
such events, or have attended them, you might consider announcing them or
reporting them on OCR.

Perhaps I should state again...OCR is not in any sense a competitor to
KLARINET. It is a companion information source, on a different segment of
the Internet. KLARINET is an email discussion group, whereas OCR is a
publication on the World Wide Web. And, OCR encourages its readers to
participate in KLARINET, just as KLARINET participants have encouraged
clarinetists to visit and read OCR.

A few words on the future of OCR...the Articles and Guest Columnists feature
will certainly be continued as the main body of OCR. The Reviews section
will as well remain an integral part of the publication. Readers have asked
for an expanded Announcements section--as previously mentioned, readers are
anxious for information and reports on workshops and seminars. The
Directory of Teachers has been under-utilized, and will likely be dropped if
interest in this service does not increase in the near future.

Again, I thank you for you interest in OCR, and look forward to your
continued visits. I sincerely welcome your suggestions and comments, and
will incorporate as many services as possible into OCR that receive support
from its readership.

Thank you!
Stan Geidel
