I love this piece, and my 3rd/bass part is even kind of funny. There's a
section, in the 3rd movement, where I'm instructed to put down my Bb
soprano clarinet and pick up my bass clarinet for 10 bars. The funny
thing is: I never play a single note during those ten measures! My next
entrance is on Bb again, so I then put my bass down and resume playing
soprano. What is this? Performance art? Needless to say, I don't
follow the instructions, but I get the feeling Dan is going to tell me
that Mahler actually intended me to cradle my bass for ten bars because
it feels neglected or something.

Neil.
