Ron Monsen and Dan Leeson recently mentioned Dieter Kloecker and his
sharing of the "obscure" music that he finds in monasteries, old libraries,
etc. I had an experience about 3 years ago somewhat like Ron's. I wrote
(also in German) to Herr Kloecker asking about the parts to the Nisle
Septet for winds and strings, which Kloecker had recorded on LP. (I had
done a fair bit of homework on the piece, having tried to locate the
work through many other sources.) I also enclosed a listing for Mr.
Kloecker of my personal chamber music collection, which in my humble
opinion contains at least a piece or two that Kloecker would be interested
in getting. Of course, I offered to pay for a copy of the Nisle parts, or
trade something from my holdings.

I did receive promptly back a FORM letter saying that the Nisle parts were
not available. Mr. Kloecker also scribbled a note saying that the music
was destroyed in a house fire. And he thanked me for the copy of my
chamber music listing.

I shared this story with several of my collecting friends. I heard from
one source that Kloecker's collection was never burned, but that that is a
convenient way of telling others to leave him alone. I know not where the
truth lies.

I do recall also that Jerry Pierce similarly did not have any luck in
trading music with Mr. Kloecker.
