Julie,

Try getting a copy of the Clarinetist Compendium by Daniel Bonade. It is
put out by Leblanc Publications in Kenosha, Wisc. It has detailed
instructions on "stopped staccato" My students have found it most helpful.
It is also very helpful in getting students to play with a steady air stream.
