It is my understanding that the tempi marked by the composer in the score
were done with a metronome that was not accurate. I got this information
from Jerry Pierce who wrote about it in an issue of CLARINET in his column
Pierce's Potpourri--some one out there may remember which issue. Francaix
later revised the tempi downwards--sorry I can't remember the issue of the
magazine. Pierce got the information about the tempi error from Francaix
himself.
