Anyone have any tips on staccato articulation. I am trying to really
focus on the concept of touching the tip of the tongue to the tip of
the reed and articulating but I can't get the right sound. My teacher
tells me to use less toungue pressure and more air and this helps but
the sound isn't right. I am starting and stopping the note with my
tongue opposed to a breath release; am I approaching this correctly?
My reeds are 3 1/2-4 Vandoren V-12 but I don't think the problem lies
in the reed. I have always touched the reed too low with my tongue and
it is really difficult for me to maintain focus while tonguing at the
tip of the reed. My tongue wants to level out in my mouth. If anyone
can give me any suggestions of ways to work on this, or suggesed
reading material on the subject, I would be grateful. One of my
all-state audition etudes (Voxmann Selected Studies for Clarinet page
17) is a tonguing nightmare for me because I feel that my articulation
sounds very sloppy. I only have four days until the audition so any
last minute advice would be very helpful.
Thanks in advance.
