The summer of 1995 will find me driving across the USA, this time north to
Portland, east to Richland, WA and then onto I90 all the way to Boston.

After 10 days there, I head to Rhode Island, northern NJ, Newark, Delaware
and then home via US 50 for as long as I can stand it (probably around the
middle of Indiana, I'll want something faster than the relatively country-like
US 50 which goes all the way to Sacramento from the Atlantic Ocean, by the
way). Then I'll head on up to I80, cross the Mississippi around the quad
cities and finish the entire trip on I80.

I figure with a routing like that, there should be someone out there in
clarinet land with whom I can stop and have lunch, talk about what's new
in the world of clarinet playing, and then take off again on the way
east or west.

The last time I did this was on I10 from Los Angeles to Florida, then I95
to New York and returned by I40 to Barstow, CA. I did nothing but eat
with clarinet players from one meal to another! This time, the northern
tier of clarinet players gets the opportunity to show me the haute cuisine
of the towns in which they live.

Has to be the summer of 1996 because it will be France for the summer of
1997. See what happens when you retire? Laugh, dance, sing, and lunch!

The rules: nothing more than about 40 miles on either side of the highways
that I have suggesed I plan to take. No local specialties like squirell,
possum, or rattlesnake. My wife will be with me and she eats like a
bird: A VULTURE! Variations involve supper instead of lunch or even
breakfast instead of either lunch or supper. Small towns are treated
with the same respect as large towns and often the pies are better in
small towns.

Dates: Eastern piece: July 1-July 12 (arrive Boston, July 12)
Depart Boston July 19-20
Arrive NJ July 24
Depart NJ for Newark, DE Aug. 1
Begin western trek, Aug. 3
Arrive back in CA around Aug. 15.

Other rules: no liverwurst. I love it, but more than two sandwiches, and
your arterial system is clogged for months. McDonald's OK, love their
fries cooked in sewing machine oil. Zum!
