This was forwarded to me from the (French) horn list I'm on. It seem
like a worthy request. In this time of budget cuts for all of the arts
we're fast heading towards being an uncultured society. John Henninger

Subject: Music Program Depletion (fwd)

Dear all,

This was forwarded to me on another talklist, and was asked to post
this on as many music lists as possible. Please take a look and
respond if possible, this is becoming a problem at many universities in
the U.S. The editor of the other list asks that you respond to Chris
directly.
An email address is forthcoming.
Thanks.
Jenny

To all music students and teachers,

I am a senior at Christopher Newport University and I need the
assistance
of all coll music teachers and students. Over the past three years we,
the music department students and faculty, have managed to establish a
Bachelors of Music Degree and get our school of music accredited by
NASM. Now after all our hard work the governor's secretary of
education
is considering cutting the bachelors of music program at several
schools
in Va., because of the low amount of students graduating from the
program. What they don't understand is that in the past three years we
have tripled the amount of majors registered in the music dept.

What I am asking is that any students or professors in BM programs to
write the dean of our department with rods of support for BM programs.
We already have letters in support for the department but they would
also
like letters supporting BM programs.

If you're interested in writing please send all letters to:
Virginia Purtle
Dean of Arts and Humanities
Christopher Newport University
Newport News, VA 23602

Also, please forward this letter to any other music lists you know of,
I'm sending one to the brass list already.

Thank you for your time,

Jerry Lancaster
