Subj: Patrick Forte joins us and brings up an old issue

Welcome to the list Patrick. I remember the question about the ability
of a castrato to perform sexually. I had seen the movie and was confused
about that matter. So I brought it up on the board and was amazed at
the lack of uniformity of answers from such a wide variety of people.
Even the several doctors we had on the list offered contradictory
answers about the sexual ability of a castrato, with some saying that
everything was possible except for the delivery of sperm, and others
saying that, for a castrated man, even erection was not mechanically
possible since a critical chemical was no longer being delivered to
whereever it was it was supposed to be delivered.

I never pressed the issue because it really was not a clarinet subject,
but after reading all of the answers and cross talk, I was left with no
understanding of a castrato's ability to perform sexually.

And the movie in question had the individual performing night and day,
sometimes even performing music!!

I am glad you enjoyed it. I did too. And it livened up things for
a few days and got us off a discussion of reeds, the perennial
favorite but, to me, everlastingly dull topic.

Didn't someone say just a few days ago that "the Glotin reeds give
that nice dark sound." I let it pass. Why create unpleasantness
about the subject of sound color?
