I just heard a really different clarinet recording.

Tony Scott 'Music for Zen Meditation' it's on CD Verve 817 209-2

I guess Tony Scott was a hot Jazz player in the early 60's. He left the his
quartet (which became the Bill Evans trio) and made this recording in 1964,
it's been the only recording he's ever made any money on.

The recording is duets and trios with Clarinet, Koto and Shakuhachi.
The clarinet sound on this recording is incredible, there's times when it's
hard to tell the difference between the shakuhachi and the clarinet.

When I heard it I had to get my clarinet out and see if I could get a sound
like that, sure enough you can make a clarinet sound like a shakuhachi flute
if you use some funny fingerings, slurs and a 'breathy' emboucher.
Anyway if you want to here some very good and VERY different clarinet
playing check it out.
