Rico vs: Mitchel Lurie

I firmly believe that beginner students should not play on Rico reeds. My
experiences with the reeds have been really poor. The facings are not
smooth, the tips are rarely even, and the reeds tend to always play really
flat. (when I switched students from Ricos to Mitchel Lurie - I noticed a
definate improvement in pitch immediately!)

I would much rather start students on Mitchel Lurie reeds. I believe that
they are manufactured better (higher quality) and are a more stable reed.
The students that I have had switch have seen a dramatic change in tone
(improved) and the pitch has improved dramatically (especially from E5-C6).

I realize that the Rico reeds are cheaper and many parents think that they
are a better buy- but have then discovered that the students go through the
reeds quickly and they need to purchase more anyway.
