But isn't it worthwhile to at least hear those performances once? For
example, I have many of John Coltrane's records. That's the only way
I'll be able to hear him at all. In other cases, the people may still
be around but you may not be able to hear certain styles out of them,
e.g. early performances of living artists. Even in cases where you
could go out and hear people's performances live, are not records just
another way to hear those performances?
