Dan Leeson says he does not buy records, because he doesn't want to hear
the same performance over and over. He invites comments, so here goes:
Some of us (at least myself) don't "hear" everything on a performance
the first time. On first listening to something, I hear only the most obvious
parts, although the finer nuances must surely have something to do with my
subconscious. On subsequent listenings, I get more and more out of a good
performance, and get to admire it more and more.
Dan speaks as a professional with lots of experience. So he already
is familiar with many of the works he hears, and thus can pay attention to
the finer points of a performance the first time.
