Mike, you may have been playing a transposed part. As I recall,
"Peter and the Wolf" is written for both A and Bb clarinets;
there are low E's written for the A but no low Eb's for either
instrument.
I thought the hardest part of the piece wasn't the cat solo (that's
the kind of passage that you can get with practice) but those over-
the-break back-and-forth arpeggios. I just couldn't coordinate my
fingers that fast. I ended up cheating by leaving out every fourth
note in the pattern, and I don't think anyone noticed except maybe
for Dave Richards who was sitting next to me--right, Dave?
