I, for one, find it much easier to transpose from C -> Bb than from
A->Bb! I'm going into rehearsal now for "Amahl and the Night Visitors",
which has several sections for Clarinet in A, and am frantically searching
for an A Clarinet so I won't have to transpose! (Also, the fact the the
"A" part goes down to a low E, and I can't play a low Eb on the Bb.... I
suppose I could just raise that note an octave or two and REALLY surprise
the audience!)
