I graduated from Wichita State University and studied with Dr. Jones. I
don't believe he is getting kickbacks from Howarth. He is very impressed
with the instruments consistantly dark tone through the entire range and
its good pitch tendencies. I know of two of my friends, still studing
with Dr. Jones, who have also been impressed with the horns and have
purchased sets. However, I remain unconvenenced that they have produced
a horn to match the Buffet Prestige. I don't know of anyone here at
Indiana Un. who has tried a Howarth. An oboe friend of mine tried a
Howarth oboe and complained that yes it had a dark tone and good
intonation, however, the horn resisted producing the "spin" on a given
note to make it travel in a hall. I don't know if the clarinets suffers
from this as well, but Dr. Jones has no problem sending his sound to the
back of a hall.
