Anne,
I played The Music Man at a community theatre a few years ago. The
music is fun, ranging from barber shop quartet to marching band style. If
I recall, there was just one really difficult number (a dance number),
which I don't think we ever got right!
Unfortunately, the orchestra I played in was my "Pit Group from
Hell" experience! The musical Director knew nothing about pit groups, and
whenever the singers couldn't be heard, she'd tell the clarinets not to
play (yet she invited every brass player from off the street to play with
us!)!
I hope your experience is better! Have fun!
