Well hello from another Canadian basset horn (or Leblanc alto clarinet in F
with low C extension if you prefer) player. I would venture to state that I
have probably played my basset horn in more concerts in the last ten years
than any other player in Canada- in fact possibly more than any other in
the world with the exception of the New World Basset Horn Trio or some of
the Europeans. This in spite of the fact that I've never played the Mozart
Requiem, and have only played the Gran Partita twice in that time.

In fact it's because with the Vancouver Wind Trio I have played _The Pink
Panther_ thousands of times in school concerts (usually while walking
around the audience, pointing the bell in kids' faces...). (Sad to say, in
spite of the fact that I've always introduced the instrument, many of them
still think it was a saxophone... ;-) We also use it in arrangements of
Bartok's Roumanian Dances, the slow movement of the Gran Partita, Faure's
_Les Berceaux_, and a few other things, which adds several hundred more
performances. While doing my MMus at UBC I also managed to put together
performances of two of Mozart's Divertimenti, his six Nocturnes with
singers, the Adagio and Allegro fragment (2 cl + 3 bh) the Mayr Bagatelles,
the Mendelssohn KonzertStucke, and the Beerhalter Variations. Wow- I'd
forgotten how much fun I'd had back then- I haven't done any of this stuff
lately.

So while you may be Canada's leading basset horn player in terms of quality
(I won't be the one to judge ;-) I'm pretty sure I have you beat in terms
of quantity!

Incidentally, there at least two basset horn owners in Vancouver, and I
could name half a dozen who have played it... in fact my basset horn did
the Gran Partita without me last year :-( in Victoria (I was playing with
the Thunder Bay Symphony at the time).
