Hi Mitch................I hate to contradict your memories but there was
never a real clarinet player on stage. The part was played from the pit or
the entire run of the show. I believe the show opened in the fall of
1964...I was with it in Detroit and Washington for the break in period.
Neither the clarinetist nor the violinist on stage were playing. Being in
the pit for the entire show, I could be wrong about the staging, but I don't
think that any part of the show took place in any part of the theatre except
on stage. If you saw the show in the early sixties (64 on) I probably was
playing. I didn't take off much in the first year or two. Anyway....I'm
glad you enjoyed the show...nice to hear from you/gk
