Hello Derek;

I think it is a fine concept. I am one of those clarinettist who avoid
working on concerti lit (I do love working on the Copland) unless there is a
chance to use the concerto with an orchestra. I find most piano reductions
either boring or impossible of the pianist so there is no use and playing the
concerto with an "accompanist" who would for the most part rather play a nice
sonata. Having said that, I would consider playing the arr for two pianos and
bass in recital for all the reasons you gave in your post. I think it would be
fine to have a duo reduction for the Hindemith, Finzi, Tomasi, Nelson ect... as
well.

I brought this topic up in my clarinet class at the University of Oregon
and here is some of the down side of the idea at least from my colleagues point
of view. The Economics of A) printing and B) have to pay two pianist and a
bassist to do the recital. What do you think? Other than that I think it is a
fine concept again.
