There are other major differences in V-12 vs regular Van doren reeds: look at
them side by side and and you can see: the V-12 reeds are thicker at the
butt end and the slope to the tip of the reed is therefore steeper (looking
at the profile of the reed). This taper gives rise to a different feel and
match to various facings (Rehfeld's book on reeds has some interesting
allusions to this). As their brochures state, the V-12 reeds tend to feel 1/2
strength softer than the regulars.
