Gene Keys, in responding to an inquiry about the clarinet part in
Fiddler on the Roof, identifies himself as having been the one who
played it on Broadway for 8 years. I suspect that that was the entire
run of the show!!
If that is the case, I want to tell Gene how much I enjoyed the several
performances of the show that I went to see (twice just to hear him
play) and what a wonderful standard he set for all players of this
delightful book.
It is a ruinous book in that, once you play it, no other show will be
as delightful or as enjoyable. As I said in an earlier post, I did only
100 performances over the years, but I would have liked to have done
many more. (I did over 1,000 Nutcrackers and I would have like to
have done less!).
