Guys -- doesn't the tendency of a clarinet to crack have to do with what
kind of care its owner gives it? If it goes out in the cold a lot, in the
dry air, then its chances of cracking are certainly increased. If it's kept
in an insulated case, then maybe it will be less likely to crack. I've had
my clarinet for two years without any kind of problem, and I may owe it to
my case, humidifier, and the good care I take of it. I was also told to oil
the tenons with almond oil to keep them from swelling and shrinking, but I
haven't gotten around to it.
