david,
I can name a few nice pieces off the bat: 1) anything by Shulamit
Ran - especially the "For An Actor"(Presser) 2) Tzvi Avni "Echoes from the
Past" for solo clarinet (IMI) 3) Paul Ben Haim "Pastorale Varie" for Cl.
& pno. I have in my possession some original pieces done in a folk style
by a man named Daniel Gallay, who lives in Tel Aviv. Also a more serious
in a contemporary idiom. I haven't performed these but they don't look to
be taxing for an audience. There is a thriving classical music scene in
Israel but their publishing companies, IMI and IMP are so badly run that
noone ever knows about their publications. Theodore Presser distributes
IMI (I think) and they might have a decent list in their complete
catalogue. I'm sure that there are some real finds there.
