And let us not forget "Till the Clouds Roll By" , an amiable, if entirely
synthetic biography of Jerome Kern. Of course the music was delightful (it
was Kern, after all) and the story was, if nothing else, inoffensive.
Towards the end, there is a scene in which Frank Sinatra, in a white tuxedo,
standing on a white pillar and surrounded by white billowing clouds (kind of
"heavenly") sings "Old Man River". Unbelievably tacky - not to mention
funny as hell. Still, the film is worth it for the music, particularly
Dinah Shore's simple and uaffected rendering of "The Last Time I saw Paris".
