Some day when things are not so busy for you, search the KLARINET
files using the key word "Paducah" (as in Kentucky). There you
will find a series of communications all dating from Sept., 1994
and started off by me. I was in shock at having seen Benny Goodman
sing the worst song I ever heard in a movie called "The Gang's All
Here" with Carmen Miranda and a realy throw-up cast.

Anyway, if you do the search and find the responses, you will see that
almost everyone who responded agreed that this may have been the
worst picture ever made after "Glen or Glenda".

For those who have never seen the movie, it is on (hopefully at 3 am)
several times this month on the cable channel, AMC.

This fantastic stinker was nominated for an academy award in Production
Design (it didn't win) and the dance sequences were staged by the
legendary Busby Berkley.

As for whateverthehell Carmen Miranda was doing in a movie with Benny
Goodman, I mention that there was a recent TV drama on her life and
it showed her as quite an artist in the Brazilian pop medium, using
some rare film. And they were right. She was sensational. But when
she got to Hollywood, the put a fruit basket on her head, had her
sing cucaracha songs, and in general made her act like an idiot. Then
she had a super disaster to her career. She was doing a dance with
Cesar Romero and a still photographer was shooting various shots
for publicity when, suddenly, Romero gave Miranda a twirl and her
skirt went up. She wasn't wearing anything underneath, the photographer
got a lensfull and the picture wound up on the underground circuit
of the USA. It completely ruined her career for no good reason at
all. She went back to Brazil a broken woman with a ruined career
simply because she was not wearing underwear when Cesar Romero twirled
her on the dance floor.

Anyway, try the AMC channel this month and hear Benny sing the
immortal words:

Paducah, Paducah
If you want to you can rhyme it with Bazooka

I have concluded that the movie was worse than Plan 39 from Outer
Space.
