Someone mentioned Sunflower Saga, and it brought a smile to my face....the
composer is James Barnes, composer in residence at the University of Kansas.
The sea songs are either Clare Grundman or Vaughn-Williams. There are some
good wind band tunes...I'm partial to Mr. Barnes things...His Fantasy
Variations were written for the U.S. Marine Band back in 1987 and are
wonderful. Claude Smith wrote some wonderful arrangements of Hymns for wind
band, and I like Clifton Williams very much. Percy Grainger is another 20th
century compser who is pleasing to the ear, as well as Dello Joio and
Nelhybel. Look into some of their stuff! :) Beth
