Marlys,
In addition to the excellent recommendations you have already
received, you might consider the following:
1. "Quartettino" by Reszo Kokai. This quartet was discussed in a
recent thread on Klarinet, and I recommend it highly;
2. "Quartet" by Boatwright. Although I would hesitate to schedule
this one for a recital, there are one or two movements that are
accessible and worth doing.
Several people have recommended the Crusell Quartets and I
concur, Although I'm not sure how many he wrote, I've played two and
performed one, and I like them as well.
You might be interested in an anecdote I read about Crusell.
Among his many performing activities, Crusell was reported to have played
clarinet in an orchestra directed by the father of Franz Berwald. Berwald
was immensely impressed with Crusell's playing, and some people believe that
admiration influenced the composer to write his Grand Septet, which used the
Beethoven Septet instrumentation, and which contained many lovely clarinet
passages.
