Elizabeth,

Judy Marshall is right. People oil (bore) their clarinets too much.
Oil will only penetrate, appreciably, into the end grain (tenon and
socket ends). Grenadilla is a very hard wood and therefore resistant to
oils. Oiling once a year is not a bad idea; it polishes the bore and
seals the end grain. Oil the clarinet with lemon oil or almond oil.

To impart moisture and oils to the wood, place strips of orange peel in
the case between the clarinet joints (I think I mentioned this before on
this listserve).
