I use Superslick key oil, which comes in a squeeze bottle that has a
long, thin metal nozzle on it, almost like a hypodermic needle. This
makes application much easier. Even so, I always have a couple of
Q-tips handy to wipe the excess. My daughter's sax has blue metal
springs, so when I do hers, after the Q-tips have absorbed some oil,
I wipe down the springs with the Q-tip so they don't rust.

About bore oil; all I can say is I have been playing the same old
Noblet clarinet for over 30 years now (off and on, mostly off). I
usually give it an oiling about once a year. After all these years,
there is not a hint of any cracks.
