About 12 years ago, my clarinet developed a crack in the barrel,
possibly due to temperature/pressure changes on an airplane (we were on a
concert tour in England). When we returned home, a clarinetist friend of
mine brought it to someone he knew to repair. The crack was pinned and
everything was fine. A few years ago, I needed more work done on the
instrument, and the repairman I brought it to said he saw no signs that
there had ever been a crack there at all (at least not one that went all
the way through to the interior of the barrel)! Is this possible? If there
was never a crack that went all the way through, how could it have been
pinned? (There are DEFINITELY pins in there!) Does anyone out there have
experience in this area? (Nothing is going to change based on this: I'm
just curious!)
