Subj: Neidich Recording of Mozart K622
Date: Thu, 12 Oct 1995 00:00:37 -0400

Recent discussion of this recording indicated that it may be out of print.
It is certainly still being offered through the BMG Classical Music Service
(i. e., record club). It is on DG 4233377-2 and has, besides the Clarinet
concerto, the Mozart horn concerti nos. 1 and 4, K 412 and 495. Neidich
uses a basset clarinet for this recording and adds his own cadenzas (whether
called for or not!).

My view of this recording is that I love Neidich's playing technically and he
plays in a style I feel is completely appropriate for the Mozart concerto,
with the possible exception of those cadenzas, but they do not offend me. I
can understand that period purists might prefer other recordings. This is
clearly a matter of taste and I happen to like such things as Galway playing
the Bach flute sonatas with a big fat sound on a modern instrument!
