Subj: Request for Assistance on Compositions by Women Composers

The director of a college/community orchestra that I play with is
planning to schedule some music for a concert in March 1996 by an as-yet
unselected woman composer. He is currently investigating a spectrum of
possibilities that seems to narrow day by day because of either the
immediate unavailability of printed music or the prohibitive expense of
rentals. As an example, the minimum rental of an orchestral work by a
prominent contemporary woman composer (Zwilich) is over $600, which
represents a major fraction of the school's modest annual budget for
new music and rentals.

He is presently considering orchestral selections by Germaine
Tailleferre and Lili Boulanger. I have suggested, in addition, Grace
Williams' "Fantasy on Welsh Nursery Tunes" and an orchestral suite by
Cecile Chaminade (the name of which eludes me) that contains her popular
"Scarf Dance."

I would appreciate any assistance from Klarinet subscribers on
how I might obtain recordings and printed music (purchase, rental, or
loan) of the compositions by Williams and Chaminade.
