I had sooo many messages to read tonight! I had ben away since Friday, and I
had almost 100 messages to read! I would like to submit an idea about C
clarinets. I remember someone's message quoting a couple of articles and
wanting to punch them for their comments about the sound of the instrument.
One thing I noticed about transposing Bb to C was a mental shift to that key
which sometimes knocked my pitch everywhere but where it should have been. I
also respectfully submit that some keys sound brighter than others. I've
heard a couple of times that composers deliberately choose certain keys for
their brightness or darkness. Every comment made about the C clarinet led me
to believe that perhaps it had a characteristic "bright" sound. Is this not
unreasonable?

Second subject: Dr. Larry Maxey, professor of clarinet at Kansas University,
Lawrence, Kansas is having clarinet classes weekly on Fridays from 12:30 P.
to 1:20 P. This Friday, the 13th (ooooo) Dr. Maxey is having his wife Linda,
a professional marimbist talk about performance preparation. (Anxiety,
etc...) Then, on the 27th, we are going to listen to many different
recordings of the K. 622 and discuss it. These are open--I just talked to
Dr. Maxey about it tonight, and non-students may come. If you're in the
area, join in the fun--a mini non-online Klarinet!!! E. Morgenroth
