Why are there so many differently keyed clarinets? Flutes do fine in C
and G (alto flute), double reeds in C and F, saxes in Bb and Eb (though
there once was a concert series in C and F), trumpets in C, D and Bb;
but so far on this list I have seen references to clarinets in B,
Bb,Eb, A, C and several others that I may have overlooked. Only
(French) horns had as much variety and they seemingly have settled on F
and Bb in the double horn. Why so many different keys for a clarinet??
