Hello to all the people on the Klarinet list. Now that I am fairly
confident of this message making it to where I want it to go, I
would like to introduce myself.

My name is Mickie Fitton (short for Michelle, not Michael). I
am a Library Technician at a State high school in Melbourne, in
the state of Victoria in Australia. I have always loved music
from the cradle, so I am told.)

Until very recently, I have had almost no formal music training
of any kind but, one day not very long ago, my friends Jo and
Carol (who is in charge of the music programme at my school),
were discussing musical instruments in general, and reed
instruments in particular. I butted into the conversation and
said I had always been fascinated by reed instruments, and
loved the sounds they made, especially the clarinet, and asked
Carol if it was difficult to play.

She said that somehow she could just see me playing the
clarinet, and that it would be wonderful for the kids if they could
see some of the staff having the same struggles learning
an instrument as the kids, and the next thing I knew, I had one
of the school clarinets shoved into my hands, and was teed up
for a clarinet lesson. For my recent birthday, by way of
encouraging me, my husband bought me a clarinet of my own,
and so here I am. Not very good, and not as diligent about
practise as I ought to be, but enjoying it immensely.

I have only been on the list for a couple of days, but have
already learned some useful things, and had some positive
and friendly feedback from other list members.

I love all kinds of music, but my great passion is opera, and
my ultimate goal is to be able to play all my favourite arias on
the clarinet.

I look forward to hearing a lot more from all of you.

Mickie Fitton
