Roger suggested that the C clarinet might have gone away because
players did not like the sound of it. Roger may be right, but I
am very hesitant to accept any argument based on such subjective
grounds. Granted I am no earth mover and what I like is not the
standard for humanity, but I like the sound of the C clarinet very
much and I know others who think this way too.

There probably are people who don't like the sound of a C, but there
are people who don't like asparagus. Such arguments don't get
anywhere.

While it is the basis of good discussion amongst ourselves, were that
argument ever put forward in an encyclpedia article, or book on musical
instrument history, and were it put forward as nothing more than
speculation, I would personally put a pencil in the eye of the writer!

What evidence exists that attributes the demise of the C clarinet to
any activity of mankind?
