Michiya,
I performed this piece once and it is an excellent audience
pleaser. The thing is, if you want to do it effectively, you should try
to get hold of some folkloric recordings of Hungarian peasant bands doing
folk dances like the Verbunk (which was originally a recruiting dance -
as in used by the army to "audition" country bumpkins who wanted to join
up and to weed out those who were too stupid or uncoordinated to follow
drill instructons, etc.). Being familiar with the whole style of rhythm and
ornaments was very useful to me when I played the work.
