Robert Spring's "b clarinet" is almost certainly a high pitch Bb. In the
late 19th century "old philharmonic pitch" (a=453-455) was replaced by "new
philharmonic pitch" or diapason normal (a@-----.Now the plot
thickens-British military bands and their kin the American town bands
mostly kept playing at the old level. In fact, the lower pitch was not
adopted by Britain's military until 1927 but as a practical matter, the
high pitch instrtuments were not replaced until World War 11. The result is
lots of instruments that are either marked "HP" or play way up there.

I think that's about it!!
