Regarding P Tempko's Macintosh translation of MIDI files;
There is a shareware utility called "Filetyper" that allows you to easily change
the file type. In the case of a MIDI file you just list the type as Midi and
the creator as midi. You can also find a file that already has the proper type
and tell it to use that. With system 7 and Quicktime you can then convert this
file to a Quicktime movie file which will play directly on the Mac. This is
done by opening up Simpletext with the newly typed file. You will get a box
that gives you the option to convert the file (to MIDI) and an option box to
assign the correct MIDI instruments. Simpletext then converts this to a
Quicktime .mov file which will play when clicked on by Quicktime's
Simpleplayer. Not the most obvious and straight foward way to do something on
a computer that claims to have a great user interface, but such is advertizing.
BTW, I did this with the K411 file and it plays just fine.
