As a basset horn *listener*, I would think that a sop. sax sound was totally
wrong. Perhaps you need a harder reed & appropriate mouthpiece. Incidentally,
is this a REAL basset horn (such as D. Leeson favours) or a modern-style wide
bore instrument? A touch of the lugubrious is certainly needed for the Mozart
Requiem (IMHO) - as castigated by Berlioz (I think) and GBS.
