Dr. Gorelick, it was truly heartening to hear your thoughts on K.622.
Whether Neidich or anyone else plays it, it is probably one of the best
works ever written for clarinet and nothing perhaps can ever surpass it. I
share your feelings about the second movement.
My recordings of the concerto include Benny Goodman (too fast) Jack Brymer
(vibrato!!!) and David Shifrin (on an extended range clarinet) In my
opinion, the Shifrin is far superior to any recording I have ever heard. His
control and style are unsurpassed. (If you want more details Dan, let me
know) Also I think it is only proper to play it as it was originally
written, especially after hearing it on the extended range horn.
