I took a mouthpiece refacing lesson from Clark Fobes a while back (I'm due
for another now after destroying the requisite number of mouthpieces as my
homework !) Some time later I called him and asked him his routine for
adjusting reeds. He replied (I couldn't see his expression over the phone):
"I just change mouthpieces!" (One should have that many good mouthpieces...)
