I do not play too much other than classical clarinet and saxophone, but I
have tried many mouthpieces and seriously dabble in refacing. I would
seriously consider a Morgan clarinet mouthpiece, which comes in several
fairly open facings including an open classical model and several jazz
models. These are not expensive for a hand made mouthpiece and are suberbly
made and very responsive with excellent tone and intonation. The one really
unusual thing about them is the shape of the beak which is more like a sax
mpc. Very friendly to saxophonists. You can order these on trial from the
Woodwind and th Brasswind in IN or from Weiner Music in NY.
THe Ridenour book from Leblanc has plenty of alternate fingerings for high
notes. Two I find useful are A with the C# instead of D# key as a vent and
G# with the thumb, speaker key , right index and the D# vent. Happy
exploring!
