Jonathon Cohler asks about info on the Osborne Rhapsody. Osborne once wrote
that he had not intended it to be programmatic, but while listening to a
recording of the piece, he felt that he was "hearing a lonely shepherd piping
in a Turneresque, Mediterranean landscape -- pouring out his joys and
sorrows, his longings and exultations". I believe this comes from Jim
Gillespie's "Solos for Unaccompanied Clarinet: An Annotated Bibliography of
Published Works", but I would need to verify that.
