The piece was originally written for Sol Schoenbach, then principal
bassoonist of the Philadelphia Orchestra. Sol has written an article in
one of the publications of the International Double Reed Society about
the circumstances surrounding the composition and priemiere performance
of the work. I think there was another article about it in the same
publication, perhaps by Dr. Daryl Duran, professor of bassoon at Penn
State University.

Sol's article also contained a photocopy of the composer's original
manuscipt.

I'm sorry that I don't have the complete bibliographical references at
hand, but it should be relatively easy to find the articles listed in the
cumulative index of articles in IDRS publications.
